Washington Security Boosted Ahead of January 6th Anniversary
Homeland Security Secretary Alexandro Mayokas said that the department is operating at a 'heightened level of vigilance, because we are at a heightened level of threat'.
Security around the nation’s capitol has been boosted in preparation of tomorrow’s anniversary of the capitol insurrection. Yesterday Homeland Security Secretary Alexandro Mayokas said that the department is operating at a ‘heightened level of vigilance, because we are at a heightened level of threat’ but also added that the DHS is not aware of credible threats related to the anniversary of January 6th. U.S. Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger said the department is capable of fending off another mob-like attack this year and the police department is tracking several events but is mostly monitoring an event at the DC jail though there is no specific or credible threat. DHS is deploying more people, running a 24/7 intelligence watch capacity and coordinating with fusion centers across the country to share information. The U.S. Secret Service and Federal Protection Service has also made deployment plans if needed.
