Biden Tours Storm Damage in New Jersey, New York
Yesterday President Biden toured the damage left behind by Hurricane Ida in both New Jersey and New York. During a speech, he pledged his administration’s full support to relief efforts and pitched the idea of using his infrastructure plan to take action and address the effects of the climate crisis. Biden also said that his plan would better protect the nation from future extreme weather events and cut emissions. The president thanked local leaders for their work in mobilizing and coordinating relief efforts and said FEMA was working with state and local officials to assess damage and mobilize resources. The president also said health and human services secretary Xavier Becerra was working with the state of New York to ensure those on Medicaid and Medicare get the emergency care they need. President Biden had also approved disaster declarations for both New Jersey and New York. This past Friday, he visited Louisiana and met with local officials.
