Wildfires Continue to Rage in The Western Part of the United States
Wildfires continue to rage in the western part of the United States. More than 25,000 wild-land firefighters, support personnel and incident management teams are battling dozens of fires across the United States and according to the National Interagency Fire Center, the potential for additional significant fires is expected to continue for another month. There are currently 97 fires burning in the United States which have destroyed over 2 million acres.
The Dixie Fire which is the largest active fire and the second largest in California’s history has grow to almost 600,000 acres and is only 31% contained. In Utah, crews have been battling the Parleys Canyon Fire which is 41% contained and has destroyed 539 acres. So far this year, 40,475 wildfires have burned more than 4 million acres in the United States according to the National Interagency Fire Center.
