List of Lawmakers Calling for Andrew Cuomo’s Resignation Continues to Grow
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s support from other lawmakers is crumbling following Tuesday’s announcement of a report that found he sexually harassed multiple women. Cuomo has insisted that he did nothing wrong and has made no indication that he will step down from office even though several top lawmakers are urging him to do so. An investigation which detailed the allegations of 11 women found that Cuomo engaged in ‘unwelcome and non-consensual touching’ among other allegations. Those findings have sparked conversations about impeachment by other lawmakers. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has urged Cuomo to resign saying in a statement that he should step down out of ‘respect for the office he holds’.
Pelosi and President Biden have joined New York’s two Democratic Senators, Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer and Senator Kristen Gillibrand, who are also calling for his resignation saying “no elected official is above the law. The people of New York deserve better leadership in the governor’s office. We continue to believe that the governor should resign.” Democratic governors from nearby states also added their support for resignation including Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and many others.
