Tokyo Olympics: Biles Withdraws from Individual Competition, Ledecky wins Gold
Not even 24 hours after gymnast Simone Biles withdrew from team competition at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics she has also withdrawn from the individual all-around competition as well. In a statement, USA gymnastics announced today that “after further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition at the Tokyo Olympic games, in order to focus on her mental health.” Simone will be evaluated daily to determine whether or not she’ll participate in next week’s individual event finals and plans to take the rest of the olympics ‘one day at a time’. Jade Carey will participate in her place in the all-around for Team USA. Also yesterday, Team USA swimmer Katie Ledecky won the first ever women’s 1500-meter freestyle final, making this her first gold medal of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the sixth olympic gold medal of her career, she now has a total of 8 olympic medals.
