How to Snap the Perfect Shot on National Selfie Day!
Tips on taking a great selfie!
Angle your phone slightly up, down or to the side. Or, keep your phone still and tilt your head but just slightly. Whatever you do, taking it straight on is probably not going to result in your best shot. It may take a few seconds until you nail down your own winning combo of phone + head + tilt.
After you wiggle around for your perfect angle then freeze, concentrate, and gaze deep into the lens of your smartphone. Focus your eyes on the camera, not the phone area in general. If you’re new at this, the camera is your iPhone, find the lens and gaze. Connect with it, become one with it…you get the idea. Some try to imagine the moment right before they are about to laugh. It helps you connect with the lens!
Lighting matters too. Whether indoors or out, avoid harsh direct light. The best time outdoors is when the sun is lower in the sky. Right before sunrise and right after sunset. Angle the sun to your back. But, avoid shadows especially those of polls or window blinds.
Check your background. It should be interesting but not too distracting. Car selfies, blank white walls, mirrors…boring and out! Think outside the box. Wherever you are taking your pic find a cool background. If at the grocery store, a display of apples look great with the right angle. Not feeling creative then download an app like facetune-2. It allows you to change the background to whatever you’re in the mood for.
