10 people were killed during a car crash in Alabama this weekend. According to Butler County coroner Wayne Garlock, nine children and one adult were killed during a multi vehicle accident on Interstate 65 in Butler County Alabama on Saturday. Eight of the children killed ranged in age from 4 to 17 and were in a vehicle from the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch. According to the Alabama Sheriffs Youth Ranches, the nonprofit that managed the Tallapoosa County Girls Ranch, the youth ranch provides a home from neglected or abused school-age children. A 29 year old father and his 9 month old daughter were also killed.
The driver of the girls ranch bus who was the director of the ranch was pulled from the burning vehicle but rescuers weren’t able to reach the girls in time, the driver lost two of her daughters in the crash. The accident happened on I-65 northbound on Saturday afternoon during storms from tropical depression Claudette. A witness whose car also ran off the road said at the moment of the wreck it wasn’t ‘down pouring’ but, there was a lot of water on the road. The Alabama Law Enforcement agency has asked members of the public who may have photos or videos of the accident to submit them.
