Coronavirus Case Numbers Are On The Decline As California Opens Back Up
The number of Coronavirus infections reported daily is on the decline but the urgency to continue vaccinating the population isn’t over. As the virus spread around the world it mutated into different strains and though vaccines are shown to be effective against the variants, experts say it is crucial to get ahead of them with widespread immunization. As of yesterday 52.5% of Americans had received at least one dose of the vaccine but only 43.7% of the population is fully vaccinated. Dr. Paul Offit, a member of the FDA’s Vaccine Advisory Committee said at least 80% of the population would need to be vaccinated by the winter when the virus is likely to surge again.
The very first state to shut down is now the latest to lift restrictions….California lifted most of it’s Covid-19 restrictions today as part of their grand reopening. The new order allows vaccinated people to go without a face covering in most situations and puts the state in line with guidelines already set by the CDC. Masks will still be required on public transportation, in hospitals, jails, schools and child care centers. California’s Occupational Safety and Health Standards board also said that vaccinated workers do not need to wear masks or physically distance regardless of other vaccination status.
