Collegiate Athletes Could Get Paid Next Year

Governor McMaster signed a bipartisan proposal that would allow student athletes to earn money for their NIL, which is their name, image and likeness.


Athletes attending a college or university in South Carolina may be able to receive compensation next year. Governor McMaster signed a bipartisan proposal that would allow student athletes to earn money for their NIL, which is their name, image and likeness. There are some stipulations such as not being able to use the team logo in the earning and they cannot be paid to attend a particular school. The NCAA currently considers student athletes amateurs which cannot be paid. Other states such as Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi are also enacting their NIL laws.
