Former Vice President Mike Pence Underwent Surgery To Have A Pacemaker Implanted

Former Vice President Mike Pence underwent a surgery procedure yesterday to get a pacemaker implanted after he experienced a slow heart rate.  A statement from his office said the Former Vice President’s diagnoses included an ‘asymptomatic left bundle branch block’. According to the Mayo Clinic, that diagnosis is common and involves a ‘delay or blockage of electrical impulses to the left side of the heart.’ Pence is expected to make a full recovery in the upcoming days. A pacemaker works by sending off electrical pulses to maintain a normal rate and rhythm. It can synchronize the hearts chambers and make blood flow more efficiently. Pacemakers can either be short term or long term. The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute says “many people with pacemakers can return to their regular activities within a few days.”
