Myrtle Beach Council Approves First Workforce Housing Land Purchase

Members voted to spend $480,000 to buy property on Third Avenue North for a planned workforce housing development.

Myrtle Beach City Council members have approved the first land purchase through the city’s Workforce Housing Fund.

Members voted to spend $480,000 to buy property on Third Avenue North for a planned workforce housing development.

The site is around one-acre and is expected to include 16 permanent affordable condominium units for Horry County residents earning 80% to 120% of the area’s median income. That includes teachers, first responders, nurses and hospitality workers.

The homes will reportedly remain affordable through the Horry County Community Land Trust. Construction will be funded by the land trust and ground breaking is expected to begin late 2027.
