Ship Capsizes Off Southern Coast Of Louisiana, U.S. Coast Guard Looking For Passengers
A commercial ship capsized off the southern coast of Louisiana near Grand Isle yesterday. In a statement, the Coast Guard said it received an emergency radio notification at 4:30 p.m. that there was a distressed commercial vessel about 8 miles from the coast. There were 18 people on board and so far the U.S. Coast Guard and Good Samaritan’s have rescued six. Four coast guard vessels, four civilian boats and an Ocean Sentry Sea Aeroplane are searching for the remaining 12 passengers of the vessel. Benjamin Scott, head of the National Weather Service’s New Orleans office said that stormy conditions caused winds of 70 to 80 miles per hour which caused rough waters in the Gulf of Mexico. Officials have said multiple vessels were shipwrecked off Grand Isle and buildings were damaged by the storm.
