Nashville Recovering from Flooding Over the Weekend

Nashville is recovering after a deadly flood caused by heavy rains hit the area over the weekend. During the storm, hundreds of people needed rescuing and four people were killed. Authorities have identified two of the four victims as men in their 60’s and 70’s who drowned after driving in the floodwaters. In the last year, Nashville has experienced a damaging tornado, a deadly derecho and a bombing on Christmas morning. Mayor John Cooper announced late yesterday that he had declared a state of emergency to help get local and federal resources to help recover.

Cooper made a statement on twitter saying, ‘Metro’s first responders have worked tirelessly following the city’s second highest ever two-day rainfall, which flooded neighborhoods across the county.’ Flood warnings remain in place for the Cumberland River in Nashville and other waterways in central and west Tennessee. The National Weather Service reported that ‘Most area rivers and creeks had crested while a handful have yet to crest’. Unfortunately more rain is in the forecast.
