Overall Covid Cases Lowering but, New Variants Spreading

Experts say coronavirus cases are declining but not because of vaccines. Dr. Tom Frieden, former director of the CDC says staying apart, wearing masks, not traveling, and not mixing with others indoors has finally paid off. After surging cases following the holidays, infection and hospitalization rates are now dropping. The country’s seven-day average of new cases is now below 100,000, which is a dramatic decrease from a peak of about 250,000 in early January.
But, with the dropping numbers, experts are warning state leaders not to ease restrictions as variants of coronavirus are still spreading across the country. In Florida, officials say around 10% of new cases in the state may be due to the variant first detected in the UK. The U.S. has also reported at least 17 cases of a strain initially seen in South Africa and two cases of another strain linked to Brazil.
