Eta Makes Landfall on the Florida Coast Again
Tropical storm Eta made landfall in Florida for the second time in less than a week today. On Sunday, Eta hit southern Florida and caused widespread flooding and power outages for thousands of people. It then circled back, upgrading to a category one hurricane while in the gulf coast, but quickly downgraded before hitting western Florida. The state is predicted to see several more inches of rain with a storm surge of 2 to 5 feet. The system is expected to finally dissipate over the western Atlantic Ocean by the weekend. Eta was historic in several ways. To start, it was the 12th named storm to make landfall in the continental U.S. in one season and the most in a year. Eta also tied the record for most named storms in a single season before theta formed and broke that record. It appears hurricane season many not be over as experts from the national hurricane center now have their eyes on a potential new system forming. if it develops, Iota will be this season’s 30th named storm.
