Large, Invasive Species of Jellyfish Spotted in Murrells Inlet

Staying in Murrells Inlet, authorities are now warning residents after a huge, invasive species of jellyfish was spotted there. According to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, the Australian Spotted Jellyfish can form “‘blooms’ that gobble up fish and shellfish eggs, as well as damage boats and fishing gear.” Recently, sightings have been reported in both North and South Carolina. This creature can reach the size of a beach ball and is easily identifiable by its spots. Anyone spending time on the water should be on the lookout and report sightings online to help federal researchers track them.
