Democrats Win House Again, But Race for Senate Majority is Much Closer

While the presidential race is up in the air, the races for congressional seats are drawing to a close. In the House of Representatives, Democrats will maintain control. In the Senate, however, it’s neck and neck. There were 35 eligible seats at the start of the night, with Republicans defending 23 of them and democrats 12. 46 Democratic and 47 Republican electors have since been called, with both sides each gaining and losing a spot. Democrats will pick up a Senate seat in Colorado. Meanwhile, Republicans will pick up one in Alabama. Some of the most disappointing losses for Democrats came as Republican senators in Iowa, Montana and South Carolina were all reelected. If Democrats hope to gain control of the Senate again, they need a net gain of at least three seats. Four if President Trump ends up winning the election. The most disputed elections remain to be in those states that are still too close to call. In other news, Delaware has elected the nation’s first openly transgender person to state Senate.
