As Southeast Recovers From Hurricane Zeta, Another Storm Forms in the Atlantic

As the Gulf Coast continues to recover from the devastating effects of Hurricane Zeta, another is already forming in the Atlantic. Hurricane Zeta has so far been responsible for six deaths, destroyed homes and other buildings, and led over 2 million people across the southeast to lose power. In preparation for the storm, Alabama and Louisiana’s governors issued states of emergencies. The president also declared one for Mississippi. Now Atlanta’s mayor is joining them in order to divert more resources for clean-up efforts. It will remain in effect for 72 hours as they continue work to restore power to over 30,000 residents. And as crews across multiple states continue to work on clean up in a region that has been battered by at least 4 major storms now, another one is already forming in the Caribbean Sea. Newly upgraded Hurricane Eta, fortunately, is not predicted to strike the U.S. But Eta now ties the record for most named storms in a single season as it becomes the 28th of 2020. The initial record was set back in 2005.
