Crews Rushing to Restore Power Along Gulf Coast After Hurricane Sally
Gulf coast residents are still navigating flooded roads and debris as the remnants of hurricane sally threatens more flooding across the south.
After the deadly hurricane hit Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia and the Florida panhandle with wind and rain, the storm surge then submerged homes amid other devastation. At least two people in Alabama and Georgia were killed. One bridge in Pensacola, Florida, is missing two large sections, likely because barges came loose and smashed into it. Roofs have been peeled away, boats are scattered, and some areas are cut off by downed trees or heavy flooding. Crews have been rushing to restore power to more than 400,000 customers. At least 85 residents of an assisted living facility in Florida’s Santa Rosa county had to be evacuated due to lack of power. Multiple rivers in the south have spilled over their banks with some expected to crest today and over the weekend.
