More Checks and Smaller Unemployment Aid in New Stimulus Proposal
Republicans are finalizing a new stimulus bill they plan to unveil today, which includes another round of 12-hundred dollar checks. The White House and senate republicans say their stimulus plan would not renew the full unemployment insurance enhancement. They want to encourage Americans to return to work and argue that the previous plan paid some people more than they made on the job. The republican proposal would mirror the first round of stimulus checks. Individuals received a payment of of 12-hundred dollars, and families received 24-hundred dollars, plus five hundred per child. This time the size of the payments are scaled down by income level and phased out altogether for higher-income Americans. The republican plan is said to extend the moratorium on evictions and offer tax credits for small businesses and restaurants. The democratic house is pushing for a more generous stimulus plan as well as enhanced unemployment benefits.
