U.S. Coronavirus Death Toll Surpasses 100,000
Last night, the U.S. became the first country to lose 100,000 people to the coronavirus. Since the virus first reached the states just four months ago, around 900 people have died a day. And because of social distancing guidelines and restrictions, many of those people died alone. As of yesterday, California became the fourth state to report over 100,000 cases, following New York, New Jersey and Illinois. In total, over 1.7 million people in the U.S. have been infected. Things are only predicted to get worse with health experts saying they are almost certain we will see a second peak in cases by the end of August. They’ve also predicted the peak will happen suddenly, will completely overwhelm hospitals, and may result in a greater number of deaths than the first peak. Some are also warning six feet apart may not be enough and are imploring people to wear face coverings, especially when indoors.
