Judge Rules Mail-In Ballot Witness Signatures Not Required for June Primary

A federal judge has declared South Carolinians voting by mail, do not need a witness to sign. U.S. District Judge J. Michelle Childs made the ruling yesterday. She said those seeking witnesses would increase their chances of catching COVID-19 and spreading it. South Carolina law enforcement are instructed not to enforce the requirement for ballots submitted for the June 9th primary, as well as “ensuing runoff elections.” However, this is not a permanent ruling and the cut off for receiving absentee ballots was not extended.
