Pensacola Military Base Shooter Had Ties to Al Qaeda
The Saudi military trainee who killed three U.S. sailors at the Pensacola, Florida military base may have been connected to al Qaeda. Eight others were also wounded in the incident which occurred on December 6th. Saudi Arabian National Mohammed Alshamrani was named as the perpetrator. He was a member of the Royal Saudi Air Force who had been training at the naval air station since 2017. His attack ended when he was killed by law enforcement. At the time it was suspected the shooting may have been terror-related. Now U.S. investigators are revealing Alshamrani had ties to the terrorist group al Qaeda that extend as far back as 2015. While they are hesitant to confirm the attack was directed by the terror group, they said the ties were “significant”. If this is true, it will be known as the first deadly terror attack by a foreign organization in the U.S. since 9/11.
