House to Vote on Two Unprecedented Measures Today
The House has a busy day ahead of them as they prepare to vote on two major measures. First on the agenda, the House will vote on, and is expected to approve, a historic policy shift that would allow members of Congress to cast votes remotely. Proxy voting will also be authorized under this measure, which will allow members to designate other colleagues to vote for them. This follows a weeks-long debate over the issue as the pandemic continues to devastate the country and forced Congress to go into one of the longest breaks in U.S. history. This comes the same day Congress is also expected to vote on the recently proposed and unprecedented $3 trillion stimulus relief bill, the largest proposed in American history. Democrats have expressed concern over the ramifications if the bill is approved without bipartisan support, however many republicans, including the president, have said the bill is “dead on arrival.”
