Employees from Multiple Companies Stage “Sickout” Protest Today
Employees of Target, Whole Foods, Amazon, Instacart, FedEx, and Walmart plan to stage a nationwide “sickout” protest today. Target employees have reported being forced to wear their own PPE after the company failed to provide them with any while they work. They also reported they received plexiglass partitions but only a week ago. Many Whole Foods employees report being scared after several tested positive for COVID-19 and one person even died last week. Many others have made similar claims of unsafe and unethical working conditions during the pandemic. One Target employee said “They call us essential workers, but I think what they really mean is disposable.” So they have decided to host a nationwide protest today. It follows several smaller ones from earlier last month by workers from Amazon, Whole Foods and Instacart which failed to make any major changes and even ended in the termination of several employees.
