Official Investigation Launched into Outbreak Aboard USS Roosevelt

The Navy has begun an investigation into the USS Theodore Roosevelt following an outbreak of COVID-19. In late March , former Captain Brett Crozier wrote a letter that was leaked to a media outlet in San Francisco. It requested the evacuation of more than 5,000 sailors after an outbreak on the ship had created a “dire situation”. Crozier was soon after fired over the incident by former Secretary of the Navy Thomas Modly, who also resigned several days later after openly calling Crozier “stupid” and “incompetent” while giving an official address to the crew. At the time, around 400 crew members had contracted the virus. That number is now up to approximately 940. The current Acting Navy Secretary, James McPherson, said there were still many questions surrounding the incident which caused the outbreak and the subsequent firing of two commanding officers.
