States Begin to Form Regional Coalitions
In light of the pandemic and economic hardships, some states are beginning to form their own regional coalitions. When President Donald Trump spoke in a press briefing yesterday, he defended his reaction to the pandemic saying, “Everything we did was right. When somebody’s the president of the United States, the authority is total.” But many people, including New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, have repeatedly rejected this statement. Cuomo said the president is not a king and the real power lays with governors and it’s been that way since the united states first formed. To prove this, he and governors from New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Rhode Island and Massachusetts have formed a regional pact. They’ll assign new ‘health and economic officials to the governors’ chiefs of staffs”. Their sole purpose will be to monitor the economy, infection rates, and ultimately keep people safe. California, Oregon and Washington also have a similar agreement.
