MYR Airport To Remain Open Despite Significant Drop in Customers

Myrtle Beach International Airport has reported a dramatic decrease in passengers during the pandemic. On Monday, MYR Airport recorded the arrival of only 131 passengers, which is a 95% drop from their usual 3,000 daily customers. The airport’s director, Scott Van Moppes, confirmed airlines are consolidating and canceling so many flights that many may not come back to Myrtle Beach until the pandemic ends. Despite lack of passengers, demand for cargo shipments and medical supplies has never been higher. It’s a large reason why airports are still being considered crucial infrastructure and will remain open and operational until the FAA decides to shut them down.
