Major Retailers Forced to Close, Furlough Thousands of Employees

Thanks to the new $2 trillion stimulus relief bill, the economy appears to be in recovery, however many are still losing their jobs. Companies such as Macy’s, Kohl’s, Nordstrom, and Gap have temporarily laid-off hundreds of thousands of employees and been forced to closed hundreds of stores nation-wide for the time being. Meanwhile, essential employees feel their lives are becoming seriously endangered. Yesterday there were walk-outs from workers at Amazon and Instacart. The strikes will not end with them either, as Whole Foods employees plan to call in sick today. They’re demanding mainly paid sick leave and free testing for all employees. College students are also angered as they are too old to receive $500 from the stimulus relief package but aren’t eligible to receive the $1,200 due to their parents claiming them as dependents. In light of all this, Congress is once again looking to pass a fourth relief bill that would possibly offer more direct payments to individuals.
