U.S. Coronavirus-Related Death Toll Rises to 2,500
There are now almost 143,000 cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. with the death toll nearing 2,500. Just a few days ago when the historic $2 trillion stimulus relief package was officially signed into order, the death toll had been 1,000. As a result, President Trump has extended social distancing orders for the month of April. This was despite his hope to have parts of the country back up and running by Easter. He also asked the CDC to issue a travel advisory warning that urged people to avoid New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut in particular which have been hit hardest by the virus so far. In New York, a makeshift field hospital is being built in central park to help meet the demand in hospital beds they are seeing. New York City alone has nearly 60,000 cases which is a little less than half of all cases in the U.S. Doctors from across the country have been re-allocated to the city where as of yesterday, 776 people had reportedly died from the virus.
