The 2020 Census Begins Today

The 2020 census starts today and is expected to be the largest population count in U.S. history. There are many reasons why participating is important, outside of the fact that it’s required by law and you can be fined for non-compliance. The major benefit being that it determines how many congressional representatives each state gets and how billions of federal funds will be spent. The census will also provide temporary employment for up to half a million people. It’s predicted only about 60% of people respond to the census. The remaining 40% will have to be collected by employees going door-to-door. This is also the first time U.S. citizens will be able to respond online. It has left many concerned about possible cyber attacks but census officials have reassured the tests are extremely secure. Despite some worries, the Supreme Court has ruled a citizenship question will not be on census.
