The World Health Organization Declares Coronavirus a Pandemic

Twelve states have declared themselves in a state of emergency as the number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. doubled in just a few days. Washington was the first to make the declaration on March 2nd. Following close in their footsteps was California, Maryland, Utah, Kentucky, New York, Oregon, Florida, New Jersey and most recently, North Carolina, Colorado and Massachusetts. The number of cases has risen from 500 to 1,000 with at least 32 deaths. In New Rochelle, New York, a 1-mile “containment zone” has been created. The National Guard will be deployed to the area where the majority of cases have developed in order to prevent further spread. Across the nation, at least 15 universities including UCLA, Harvard, Duke, and Stanford have canceled their in-person classes and are asking students to continue their studies online. Some schools have even extended their spring breaks and others have altogether asked students to move off campus to prevent an outbreak.
