Couple Arrested After Children Test Positive for Drugs

Two people in Myrtle Beach have been arrested and charged after three children tested positive for drugs. Brandi and Steven Schwartz are each facing “unlawful neglect of child or helpless person” after Myrtle Beach police responded to their residence on the 7600 block of N Ocean Boulevard on January 7th after they received reports of child neglect. Three children were discovered in the home and immediately placed into emergency protective custody after police reported “extreme unsanitary living conditions that were provided” by the Schwartz’s. While in emergency custody, hair follicles of the children were drug screened and came back positive for opioids and methamphetamines. It’s unclear if the Schwartz’s are the biological parents of the children. The ages of the children is also currently unknown.
