Deadly Winter Storm Causes Power Outages, Road Closures Statewide

Power outages and destruction have been reported throughout the state after the deadly winter storm hit last night. Power to more than 8,000 Santee Cooper customers and over 9,900 Horry Electric customers has been restored after they discovered they were without early this morning. Both companies had crews working tirelessly throughout the night and into today in order to rectify the situation as quickly as possible. And thousands of Duke Energy customers along the border of North and South Carolina have also reported similar issues. Entire roadways have been closed down due to flooding and fallen debris. Part of a roof in Bennetsville was even blown completely off.
