Americans Evacuated From China After Coronavirus Outbreak
Over 7,000 cases of the Wuhan Coronavirus have now been reported in mainland China with at least 170 people dead. Out of those 7,000 cases, about 100 have been confirmed globally. Mandatory evacuations were issued by many countries who supplied planes for residents immediate return, including the U.S. About two hundred Americans currently face voluntary quarantine at a California U.S. military base following their recent arrival. The passengers, who are mostly diplomats, could be kept isolated for upwards of two weeks as they are screened for symptoms of the virus. Meanwhile, public airlines based in Asia, Europe and North America continue to suspend flights between China. While the outbreak of a major virus is not normally covered in standard trip cancellation policies, most airlines are offering some sort of waiver on change fees or options to cancel for credit on a future flight in this case.
