Opening Statements in Senate Impeachment Trial Conclude
After more than a week, opening statements for the senate impeachment trial officially came to an end yesterday. Now the big question that people are asking is will there be witnesses in the trial? It’s a move that could make or break the case and extend proceedings for possibly months. After the president’s defense team concluded their opening arguments, senate republicans met to discuss the matter going forward. Many believe calling even one witness could lead to a number of others being called with no clear end in sight for the trial. The official vote to subpoena witnesses will be either this Friday or Saturday. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer says he feels confident republicans know “in their hearts” it’s the right thing to do. However Senator John Barrasso has said Schumer is strongly mistaken. With the way things are going, he does not believe witnesses will be called forth.
