U.S. Firefighters Dispatched to Australia
U.S. firefighters are now being deployed to Australia to help fight the unprecedented and historical brush fires that are destroying the country. 136 fires are currently burning across more than 14.7 million acres. Of those fires, 69 are not contained. Almost 2,000 homes have been lost. About 2,700 volunteer firefighters are currently deployed. So far, three have been killed along with 24 civilians. And two more people are currently missing. Over half a billion animals have been killed as well. Many believe entire species could become extinct as a result. These are some of the most devastating fires the world has ever seen. Dozens of U.S. firefighters have already been deployed but at least 20 more are to be sent over. Australia and New Zealand have a history of dispatching firefighters to the U.S. during times of crisis and now we’re repaying the favor.
