Officer Admits to Faking Hate Crime
A Kansas police officer has admitted to faking a hate crime against himself. The incident became national news after a cop posted a photo of a McDonald’s coffee cup that had an explicit and derogatory name written on it. After video footage was reviewed and interviews with those involved were held, Herington Police Chief Brian Hornaday has confirmed that the unnamed officer fabricated the story. Hornaday also confirmed the officer is no longer employed by that agency. He said the officer was twenty-three years old and had only been with the department for two months. He also says he and his department are deeply embarrassed by this but said no criminal charges were going to be filed at this time.
