Conway Moves Forward With Project For Trail And Ferry Dock

Currently, the only river crossing is the historic Waccamaw River Memorial Bridge along Highway 501 Business.

Conway city council members approved a construction contract for a new project.

The council unanimously approved the project for the Kingston Boardwalk Trail and Docks, advancing the long-planned effort to create a safer way for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the Waccamaw River.

The council awarded the contract to H, K, & W Marine Construction for the Kingston Boardwalk Trail and Ferry Project. It’s identified as a priority in the Riverfront and Downtown Master Plan for Conway and the Conway Pathways and Trails Plan.

Currently, the only river crossing is the historic Waccamaw River Memorial Bridge along Highway 501 Business. The new project will eventually offer a connection from downtown Conway to the Waccamaw River Park along Depot Road, and the long-term goal is to add a bike lane as well to support a connection to Coastal Carolina’s Campus.

For now, the project will involve constructing an ADA-accessible permanent and floating docks and nearly 2,000 feet of elevated wooden boardwalk through wetlands and wooded areas before reaching Depot Road.
