Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Pawleys Island Church
Warren Perry was convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor in 2023 for a crime he committed in 2020.
A class action lawsuit has been filed against the Pawleys Island Community Church and its school, Pawleys Island Christian Academy.
The lawsuit was filed following recently revealed information regarding a registered sex offender’s volunteer position with the church. Warren Perry was convicted of sexual exploitation of a minor in 2023 for a crime he committed in 2020. Working in proximity to children is a violation of perry’s probation sentence and he was arrested.
A six-page complaint was filed by a couple on behalf of their minor children and on behalf of “all others similarly situated.” It alleges that the church was “negligent, reckless, willful and wanton in the hiring of a known sex offender to supervise and oversee activities which involved the children of the parents and guardians in the class action.” It claims the church intentionally failed to inform the parents that Perry was a registered sex offender and would work closely with their children.
In addition, the church’s longtime pastor and several others have stepped down from their roles. People have gathered outside the church to protest.
