‘Minorities need not apply’: Upstate store owners say Help Wanted sign was a mistake
SPARTANBURG, SC (WFXB) – It’s a restaurant sign here in South Carolina that’s gone viral for all the wrong reasons. Now, the owner is apologizing.
Over the weekend , a woman posted a photo to Facebook showing a ‘Help Wanted ‘ sign at Kenny’s Home Cooking in Spartanburg. The sign read “minorities need not apply.”
The owner – who goes by Sue – says English is not her first language. She says her husband – who’s Korean – bought the sign on Ebay. After she realized what the sign really meant, she took it down and replaced it with an apology.
