Cuba’s Coast Guard Kills 4 In Gunfire Exchange With Stolen Boat

The situation unfolded after a Florida-registered boat was detected within Cuban territorial waters off the island’s coast.

A Cuban patrol vessel approached the speedboat and attempted to identify those on board when shots were fired from the it. The captain of the Cuban craft was injured. A gunfire exchange broke out as a consequence of the confrontation.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed the boat was carrying the armed individuals in what they believe was intentions to carry out an infiltration for terrorist purposes. The ministry said “all participants are Cubans living in the U.S..” It added that “most have a known history of criminal and violent activity.”

The owner of the speed boat, who is not considered a suspect, had reported the boat stolen. An investigation is underway to reveal more information.
