McColl Selects Jonathan Beggs As New Chief Of Police
Jonathan Beggs will replace former chief Charles English, who resigned earlier this month.
A new chief of police has been selected in the town of McColl.
Jonathan Beggs will replace former chief Charles English, who resigned earlier this month over “safety concerns.”
English took on the position on July 1, ending a six-month vacancy that followed the November resignation of Bob Hale.
Hale resigned along with all officers of the department, citing a toxic work environment, leaving the town without a police force.
English was with the department for 10 months and was essentially the town’s single officer. He resigned after claiming he had no help and there were no certified applicants. It marked the second time in just over a year that the department lost all staff.
Beggs has not been officially sworn in yet. Until McColl can hire additional officers, Marlboro County Sheriff Larry McNeil said his department will continue to provide law-enforcement services in the town.
