Former Uvalde School Police Officer Acquitted In Trial
A teenage gunman killed 19 fourth graders and two teachers after opening fire at the Robb Elementary School.
A former Uvalde school police officer was acquitted Wednesday of charges stemming from the Robb Elementary School shooting.
52-year-old Adrian Gonzales was the first member of law enforcement to arrive on the scene during the 2022 attack. A teenage gunman killed 19 fourth graders and two teachers.
Prosecutors argued that Gonzales failed to follow his active shooter training and did nothing to stop the gunman in the early moments of the shooting. Hundreds of officers responded, but it took 77 minutes for them to confront and kill the shooter.
Jurors deliberated for over seven hours before finding him not guilty in the first trial over the hesitant law enforcement response to the attack. If convicted, he faced up to two years in prison on over two-dozen charges of child abandonment and endangerment.
Gonzales thanked the jury for considering all of the evidence.
