Over 100-Vehicles Involved In Michigan Interstate Pileup
There were nine to 12 injuries reported but no deaths were caused by the crash.
A pileup on an interstate in Michigan involved more than 100-vehicles.
The incident happened around 10:20am Monday on Interstate 196, around 24 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.
The crash involved at least 30 to 40 semi-trucks. Cars slid off the road and crashed, and several of the semi-trucks jack-knifed.
The incident forced both directions of the highway to close for over seven hours. Both westbound and eastbound lanes did not reopen until around 6pm.
There were nine to 12 injuries reported but no deaths were caused by the crash. Those injured were taken to hospitals while buses helped shuttle all stranded drivers to a nearby high school where they were able to schedule a ride home.
The pile-up was caused by dangerous weather conditions, with heavy snow and rapidly deteriorating visibility leading to slick roadways. Authorities are still investigating the sequence of events.
