Typhoon Kalmaegi Hits The Philippines Killing At Least 114 People

The typhoon will weaken to a tropical storm as it tracks farther inland from central Vietnam.

Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall in central Vietnam Thursday after ravaging across the Philippines.

The storm has attributed to at least 114 deaths, mostly recorded in Cebu Province, a tourist hotspot. Kalmaegi is one of the strongest typhoons on record to hit Vietnam with winds of up to 125 mph.

In the Philippines, survivors have started the task of salvaging belongings and digging through the rubble of their destroyed homes, as receding flood waters expose widespread devastation.

The typhoon will weaken to a tropical storm as it tracks farther inland from central Vietnam before moving on to Northern Cambodia, Laos and Eastern Thailand through Friday.
