Classes Resume Following SCSU Shootings
One of the shootings claimed the life of 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler. The other shooting left one male in critical condition.
Classes resumed Wednesday following a tragic shooting at South Carolina State University.
The university cancelled classes on Monday and Tuesday following their Homecoming weekend.
On Saturday, two separate shootings occurred at the same student housing complex. One of which claimed the life of 19-year-old Jaliyah Butler. The other incident left a man in critical condition who remains hospitalized.
18-year-old Matthew McCoy was arrested after he was found in possession a firearm and is believed to have fired shots at a victim. It is unclear if he is responsible for any injuries.
However, McCoy was charged with pointing and presenting a firearm and carrying a weapon on school property. He has since been released on bonds totaling to $87,000. He is required to have GPS monitoring and is not allowed to leave the state nor return to the school’s campus. He’s scheduled to appear in court on November 4.
