If you needed an excuse to order french fries for lunch, here ya go…it’s National Potato Day!

A new poll for it looked at the most popular homemade potato dishes…and it wasn’t even close…mashed potatoes are #1 by far. The top four, in order, are: mashed potatoes, potato salad, baked potatoes and breakfast potatoes or hash browns.

They also looked at regional dishes that are more popular in certain parts of the country. New England loves shepherd’s pie…mid-atlantic states like Pennsylvania and New York love pierogis…breakfast potatoes are big along the rest of the east coast…potato soup is popular in a lot of southern states…meanwhile, the midwest is making potato casseroles and potatoes au gratin.
