Second Court Votes To Block Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Order
The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled two to one blocking that order from taking effect referencing the 14th Amendment.
A second court voted to block President Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship.
On his first day of his second term in office, Trump signed an order. It said people born in the U.S. should not automatically get citizenship if one parent is undocumented and the other isn’t a citizen or green-card holder, or if both parents are in the U.S. on temporary visas.
The order directed federal agencies to stop issuing citizenship documents to those who fall into the categories.
On Wednesday, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled two to one blocking that order from taking effect referencing the 14th Amendment that suggests citizenship was meant to be granted to anybody who is “subject to the laws and authority of the United States.”
This marks the second time a lower court has blocked the order that remains on hold.
