DOJ Sues For Millions In Connection To Baltimore Bridge Collapse

The two companies include 'Grace Ocean Private Limited' and 'Synergy Marine Private Limited.'

The Justice Department filed a lawsuit Wednesday in connection to the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge.

The DOJ is seeking over $100 million from the two corporations that owned and operated the container ship that destroyed the bridge in March.

The lawsuit claims that their cost-cutting and negligence in the ship’s maintenance led to the “entirely avoidable” disaster.

The two companies include ‘Grace Ocean Private Limited’ and ‘Synergy Marine Private Limited.’

The lawsuit alleges they “sent an ill-prepared crew on an abjectly unseaworthy vessel to navigate the United States’ waterways. They did so to reap the benefit of conducting business in american ports. yet they cut corners in ways that risked lives and infrastructure.”

The hefty financial penalty would cover the costs of government response to the bridge collapse that resulted in several deaths.
